Shanghai International Catholics-SPICES is the online community for international Catholics in Shanghai to get acquainted and to share information about our parishes. Members can post questions and offer assistance, as well as participate in discussions and polls. Reminders of special feast days and parish events are emailed to members, and on Saturdays members are sent an inspiring meditation on the Sunday Gospel, with links to our parishes' weekly bulletins. New members are invited to introduce themselves to other members (now about 650-strong) and to post a photo.

First built in the 28th year of the Qing Emperor Daoguang (1847), St Francis Xavier's Church opened to the public six years later. In 1946, it was designated the church for the Bishop of Shanghai. It is an architectural and cultural relic of the city. The church is a replica of the Chiesa del Gesú (Church of the Holy Name of Jesus) in Rome, the mother church of the Society of Jesus.

* CARITAS SHANGHAI
Caritas Shanghai is the charity organization of the International Parish in Shanghai. It began in 1999 as a way to raise funds for special needs that were requested of the priest. Today, it maintains several on-going charitable committments in China, including medical care for the orphans of Houma (Shaanxi), leprosariums in Sichuan, visits to the retired nuns convent in Pudong, English teaching of migrant children in Pudong and other worthy causes. Caritas Shanghai is entirely volunteer run and relies on the individual donations of members of the International Parish.
* Father McKenna
Fr. George Mc Kenna is a retired Catholic Priest. He was ordained on May 6, 1944 in the Archdiocese of Chicago. He is the founder of Our Lady of Loretto Chapel at Midway Airport. Fr. Mc Kenna has written four books. A triology titled “I’ll Only Speak for 3 Minutes” and his latest work, “Wisdom From the Pulpit”. Father currently lives in Palos Park, Il. at the Bishop Timothy Lyne Residence for retired priests.
